Shannon Dedrick
7 month old Shannon Dedrick had been missing 5 days from Chipley Florida. Apparently authorities had come to notice that the baby sitter for the Shannon had written a letter to Governor Crist asking him to save Shannon from her drug abusing parents. DCF did investigate and found the child to not be in any danger.
Authorities had been searching extensively around the home where Shannon lived. She was reported missing Saturday morning, around 11 am, and it was reported they last saw her at 3am
After investigating the babysitter and that letter she wrote, it came to the attention of authorities that this woman could be responsible for child abuse against her step-daughter, and was and is a suspect in her step-son’s disappearance, a case that went cold years ago.
Shannon was found in a box under Susan Baker’s(the babysitter) bed. Shannon is alive and healthy. Susan is apparently related to the Shannon’s father, yet he is not suspected in this whole thing, while Shannon’s mother is.

I’m very thankful that Shannon was found unharmed. I hope they get to the bottom of this and find out the truth of what was going on. I also hope that maybe this will lead authorities to find out what happened to Paul, Susan’s 3 year old step-son, whose been missing since 1987. Apparently that happened in the Carolinas and Paul’s father was also a suspect in that one, as he is in Shannon’s case.
Update: This is an update on Shannon’s story, complete with the charges for the 3 accused. It appears that Shannon’s mom gave her to the babysitter. Also the step-daughter of Susan Baker, that was abused, was apparently her husband James’ sister.

This is WONDERFUL news! I am thrilled that this precious little baby has been found! I was deeply touched by the vidio of the sheriff with tears running down his face. So very caring and full of love.
I, unfortunately, thought that Baker was “the good guy” in this. Obviously not! I hope they jail her, and the parents for a LONG time…..
I just pray that the baby is placed in a loving home where she will get the medical care she needs.

I truly despair for the babies of today, something has to be done to stop things like this happening…but I am at a loss to know what can be done.

Hey Jill! First I’m so thankful Shannon was found alive, and well.
You know the problem is so many people have been raised to think that they are the only ones who matter, spoiled, given everything they want, and then one day life doesn’t go their way and either they take it out on the children they had or another person. Look at the psycho psychiatrist at Fort Hood, it was about things being his way. He was right and everyone else was wrong. He wanted that free education from the government, but he did not want to fulfill his service agreement. He was not going to be deployed, as he didn’t agree with it. So he just started shooting his comrades. They need to put him before a firing squad.
Anyway, case and point children have to be taught right from wrong. It’s not enough just to love and care for them, they have to be taught right from wrong.
Of course drugs are an issue too.
I’m just thankful that little Shannon has got a shot at a decent life, in a loving stable environment. It’s hard to believe she was in that box for 12 hours and wasn’t crying. It makes you wonder if she had been done that way before.
I didn’t mean to go off on a rant, I just notice how everyday, the public, generally gets ruder and ruder. People lack compassion for others. Not everyone mind you, but a lot of people do. It seems more than ever before.

Tina, I know. All of them cried at a point. They were so relieved to find her and to find her in good health was even better. It’s very rare to find one (after missing that many days), alive and in good health.
I agree this is so wonderful, and I am so happy she is safe. I hope she gets a good loving home, where she will grow up happy and loved. God Bless Baby Shannon.
