Somer Thompson
By now everyone knows the tragic story of Somer Thompson. Her story is absolutely heart breaking. Her family is in my prayers. I can’t imagine what they must be going through. I pray that the person responsible will soon be caught and brought to justice. There is no excuse for something like this to happen, and the person responsible is plain and simply a monster.
Many also know the story of Haleigh Cummings, who still remains missing. Now when Haleigh was reported missing it appeared to be a stranger abduction from her own home, even her own bed. It wasn’t long into the investigation before investigators ruled out the possibility of a stranger abduction, as there were no signs of forced entry. They even took the door in question off and analyzed it. No signs of forced entry at all. To make matters worse the person who was in charge of looking after Haleigh that night can’t seem to get the story straight and has failed polygraphs.
In Somer’s case it was a stranger abduction and LE did a phenomenal job of finding Somer very quickly. Sadly it was too late. I do believe they will solve her case, based on the great job they’ve done so far. I just hate that it ever happened. These things should not be happening.
I found this write up in the Orlando Sentinel that compared the 2 cases and posed the question about why one child was found, and so quickly and the other child is still missing after almost 9 months, with nothing solid to go on.
Haleigh Cummings
Now Satsuma is about 50 miles south of Jacksonville and you have 2 different Sheriff’s Departments at work here. Is it the difference in the Sheriff’s Departments, the towns, or what??? This article I found points it out quite clearly. Check it out:

To Somer’s family’s credit they did everything they could to act quickly and provide LE with all of the info they could to get them on the right track. They did everything they could to help. The community did everything they could to help as well. As I mentioned above, LE did a phenomenal job in their own right.
Sadly in Haleigh’s case, while Putnam county did search dumpsters and landfills, the one person that has been deceptive would never be of any help and they don’t have much of anything to go on. They say they are still searching for Haleigh. The sad part of it is they just didn’t get much cooperation in Haleigh’s case. What a horrible, sad statement for Haleigh.
I wish these things would not happen at all, as I know most everyone feels that same way. It breaks your heart every single time another child is lost. I truly wish there was more that could be done to stop some of this madness. The world loses so much every single time it loses a child. Life is so precious.

Hi Niecey! I wish these things didn’t happen also! It is very sad that any family has to be put through this! Somer’s mother seems to be a very strong person, and I can see her helping out like Marc Klaas does.
The Haleigh case needs to be over. Misty, if she knows anything, needs to tell! The secrets need to stop, already!
Good article, niecey. The difference in the way the two cases were handled is like night and day. I’m not saying the police weren’t doing their jobs in Haleigh’s case, because I don’t know if they were or not. I’m saying the community in Satsuma has not been cooperative. There are a lot of secrets in Satsuma, and Misty isn’t the only one keeping them.

I agree about Haleigh’s case too. The secrets do need to stop. Somebody does know something. I’m sure Misty knows more than she’s telling, and she needs to fill in the blanks.

Hey Tina! No need to worry if you are a Christian, and remember that the Word Of God says: “No man knoweth the day or the hour”. All of these things are a sign of the times, I’m sure, but we are supposed to be found fighting the good fight. So we still must carry on until the Lord decides to take His people and send His wrath. We should be trying to do what’s right and spreading His Word to a lost and dying world.
It’s the drugs that interfere with finding Haleigh from the very beginning to now! Cooperation with LE would expose criminal activities. To Haleigh’s caretakers, feeding a drug habit takes utmost top priority. The noncaretaker parent also has drug issues, as well as low interest in Haleigh. Children with the misfortune of being born to the circumstances of Haleigh do not live in a safe environment. They may be even used and abused by the very people who are in charge of their care. If they survive past toddler-hood, they must raise themselves, for surely their caretakers aren’t interested. Social service agencies are likewise disinterested in the upbringing of the Haleighs of the world. Wake up world!
